SEO Quick Tip: Header Tags
H1 tags (and the rest of the header tags) are not the most important element(s) on the page; at least not anymore. Now this is a pretty bold and categorical statement and while it is mostly true I think some explaining is due.
Search engines have kind of wised up to web developers stuffing keywords into the header tags for SEO purposes. Because of this search engines pay more attention now to where the content shows up on the page and the higher the better. Remember the search engines like Google have shifted to a focus on user experience. So the content that is higher up on the page for the user will be the content that the search engine algorithms focus on.
Now this doesn't mean you should abandon header tags. We still think they serve a useful function in helping you and content creators organize content in terms of priority. Just use them properly keeping in mind it is all about the user dummy and you will be fine.
