Website Content Strategy and Generation Z

on June 12, 2017

"Move over, millennials—there’s a hot new demo in town", says Adweek.  They recently published some interesting data about Generation Z and their internet content consumption.

Before we dig further into the data you might ask, "Who is Generation Z?" Roughly speaking they are individuals born between 1996 and 2010. Part of what makes them really unique is they are the first generation to grow up with this new fangled internet thing.

There are a few key takeaways:

  1. YouTube is King
  2. They trust social media influencers opinions as much as or more than celebrities
  3. They value honesty when influencers promote products
  4. YouTube is King

Why should you care about Generation Z?

"This group makes up a quarter of the U.S. population and by 2020 will account for 40% of all consumers. Understanding them will be critical to companies wanting to succeed in the next decade and beyond", according to Fast Company.  Well there you have it.  I am not sure you really need anymore reason to start planning for the future than that.

Take a look at the graphic produced by Adweek for some more details on which online platforms Generation Z likes.
